Another little bib

This is kind of an adjunct to the bag post.  The young lady for whom the bag was made is big sister to Ava, for whom I have previously made some bibs (apparently unblogged...).

I had some trim left over and had already made her a bib out of some soft flannel (an upcycled pillowcase) with  flowers on it that I hadn't gotten around to giving to her mum yet.

Again, I sewed this on with a honeycomb stitch and while it looks coloured, the little discs are really  more see through in real life.

Before anyone points it out...those beads are probably a choking hazard.  I thought I would point out to her mum that this is a "show bib" for the birthday only - she can have a picture with her sister holding the bag or similar and then they can be cut off immediately leaving a nice ribbon / honeycomb trim :)

For good measure - here are some of the other bibs I made her:

A Valori Wells (I think?) flannel with contrasting heart applique

And another pink with contrasting blue.  I can't remember the name of this range, though it annoys me every time I see this picture that the two fabrics are going in different directions (sorry if you hadn't yet noticed but now can't stop seeing it!).

And finally, another from the soft floral flannel pillowcase, modeled by the little lady in question (this is the reverse of the pillow case - tan on white):

Yes, I put pintucks on a bib :)

What to wear to a winter wedding?

I recently attended the wedding of a close friend in New Zealand.  If you aren't aware, early August in New Zealand is COLD!  Cue a lot of googling on what to wear to an (outdoor) winter wedding :)  I even made a pinterest board of ideas I also took inspiration from my #SewStyleHero as part of the theme month that was running via The Sewcialists .  You can read about that here . Here is what I came up with: I used a heavy stretch navy sequin ( Pitt Trading ) for the skirt... ...and a soft silvery beige colour stretch velvet (from Tessuti ) for the top. The skirt was self-drafted and designed to be as full and sequiny glorious as the amount of fabric i had would allow.  I will probably cut off the skirt now to make it more wearable in everyday life, though I loved the effect for a fabulous winter wedding. The top is the  Seamwork Astoria  and was a bit of a revelation.  This was my second Seamwork pattern and I really liked it.  I know it's tren

What Kids Clothes Week does to the kids...

Two interesting moments today. Moment 1:  asking Marcus to model a lovely hot pink striped dress. Just the shot I wanted for my blog and to check the fit...complete with a nice flash of his monster alien underpants :) Seemingly wearing a dress is the funniest thing ever. Moment 2:  Issy drawing a picture of us today. There's the dog (looking like a cat...) on the sofa at the top, Mummy on the left, Issy and Marcus playing with toys at the bottom. Let's have a close up of Mummy in that picture: Yes, I am standing at the raised counter bench area, doing some pattern tracing and cutting.  Significant enough impact on her life that I made it into her pictures...Should I feel bad?  Nah...I am seriously considering making this my profile picture :) Here it is again once coloured in, as she did such a nice job. Woo Hoo for KCW!

Workhorse Patterns Ione Top

Full disclosure:  this was a pattern a received as a pattern test and it's the first pattern of my co-editor at the Sewcialists (and all round awesome person) Becky .  You might not feel that I would be super objective on this pattern because I love Becky, but she lives on the other side of the world and I still wore this to work today because I LOVE IT. This is the Ione Top from Workhorse Patterns .  This top is version 2: the v-neck.  I left off the sleeve cuff as my pattern is somewhat busy, but I might still go back and add it I think...   It's quite amazing how different this looks in the morning versus the afternoon/early evening light! I really like the curved "hi-low" hem on this top.  It's a really nice shape at the hem. I would also like to call out that this top goes up to a size 32 (US).  That's bloody brilliant .  WELL DONE FRIEND!
